Many people still fear cancer because they believe it leads to death or only affects rich people. Nowadays, medical progress combined with government backing enables treatment for multiple cancer types which makes assistance more accessible than ever before. The main obstacles to progress in the situation are fear and misinformation and insufficient screening. That’s why local programs are so important. From barangay-based screenings to oral chemotherapy options to government-provided financial assistance, patients now have easier access to care. Communities even celebrate milestones: graduation ceremonies for those who finish chemo, certificates, and the ringing of a bell to mark every brave step toward recovery. This month is a reminder to check in on yourself and your loved ones. Know the signs, don’t ignore symptoms, and support each other. Early detection, timely treatment, and community care can save lives maybe even your own. Let’s fight fear with knowledge, break the stigma.
